Despite a 12 day delay in getting into the field due to bad luck with weather, we had a successful spring field season at White Glacier. In addition to mass balance and ice radar measurements, we added a new dGPS station at Moraine Profile (870 m a.s.l.) and serviced the Wind Profile dGPS and weather stations, which we were happy to see still standing and recording away!
A new network of 25 prisms was installed in two survey lines near the location of Anniversary Profile (370 m a.s.l.) and surveyed using a Leica Total Station. Repeat prism surveys over future years will allow us to observe changes to the daily and seasonal fluctuations in ice motion, and compare contemporary ice dynamics with observations made in the 1960-1970s.
