Spring 2011

In addition to conducting the annual mass balance measurements, 2011 was a reconnaissance year for upcoming studies of ice thickness and velocity changes at White Glacier following earlier measurements in the 1960-1970s. Measurements of ice elevation at several stake locations were conducted with a differential GPS as well as a profile survey up the glacier centerline.

A large snowfall marked the start of our field season, which meant digging deeper than usual snow pits and exciting conditions for snowmobile travel on White Glacier. We had a great team of four tackling the mass balance measurements, and taking on euchre tournaments in the evenings.

The fantastic four: Miles Ecclestone, Chris Omelon, Evangeline Sessford, and Laura Thomson.
